Promotion and Development of Renewable Energy
Renewable Energy (RE) offers proven alternatives to the burning of fossil fuels for power generation. The Government is committed to the development of RE in Hong Kong with a view to further improving our air quality.
As mentioned in the Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050 promulgated in October 2021, the Government will grapple with Hong Kong’s geographical and environmental constraints in driving the development of RE, and strive to increase its share in the fuel mix for electricity generation to 7.5% to 10% by 2035, and further increase it to 15% subsequently through facilitating local RE projects, regional cooperation and joint ventures, etc.
