Sustainable Development School Award Programme


Objectives

  • To raise students' understanding of the concept of Sustainable Development (SD) and their awareness of the importance of SD
  • To encourage students to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives and to spread the SD message to their families and the community
  • To create a sustainable community network at district level and enhance students' planning and organisational skills to facilitate their future participation in and collaboration on SD activities

  • Students, teachers and parents of secondary schools
  • Members of the community, and/ or district organisations and institutions

October 2025 to August 2026


Theme

Nature Conservation and Biodiversity
(Biodiversity refers to the variety of life forms on Earth, encompassing all living organisms and the ecosystems they inhabit. Natural ecosystems and biodiversity are deeply intertwined with human well-being, making their conservation vital for achieving sustainable development.)


Programme Contents

This programme includes two categories of award (Schools are welcome to join both categories):

1. Sustainable Development Participation Award
Requirement: Participated in at least two SD-related activities (at least one of the activities must be in line with the theme of “Nature Conservation and Biodiversity”).
No. of attendance: At least 300 students
Remarks:

The qualifying activities could be activities organised by the EEB or other organisations. Participation in activities under the SD School Outreach Programme would be counted as one activity only.

2. Sustainable Development Community Project Award
Requirement:

Organised activities or projects in the community to promote the concept of SD to parents, members of the community, and/or district organisations and institutions.

No. of attendance: At least 300 participants
Events: All events organised should be able to promote the concepts of SD effectively. At least one of the activities must be in line with the theme of “Nature Conservation and Biodiversity”.
Awards:

Schools that have received “SD Community Project Award” may also be awarded the following Prizes:

1. Outstanding Performance Award

The best performing school of SD Community Project Award will additionally be given the Outstanding Performance Award.


2. Devotion of Promotion of SD Honours Award

Schools that have received the SD Community Project Award in three consecutive rounds will additionally be given the Devotion of Promotion of SD Honours Award to recognise their continuous efforts and contribution in the promotion of SD.


In order to encourage more schools to participate in the programme, reimbursement will be made for the partial costs incurred for participating or organising in the activities.

The maximum amount of reimbursement for participating schools of the programme is as follows:

  • "SD School Participation Award" - HK$ 2,500
  • "SD Community Project Award" - HK$ 12,500
